It was No. 01s and Confederate flags as far as the eye could see.
“Dukes of Hazzard” fans were lined up out to Main Street at Sanders Court Friday morning waiting their turn to get pictures and memorabilia autographed by John Schneider and/or Tom Wopat, who played cousins Bo and Luke Duke on the CBS television show.
Bobby Clingan, of Spring City, Tenn., was carrying the trunk lid off his 1969 Dodge Charger in an effort to add Schneider’s signature.
Bearing the familiar orange paint of the Duke’s car, “The General Lee,” Clingan said he has worked to restore the car he found rusting away on a mountain top near his home.
It’s sick,” Clingan said when asked why he didn’t drive the Charger to London. “I drove it in June to meet Tom Wopat.”
With Schneider’s signature, Clingan said he only needs Christopher Mayer, who played Vance Duke during the 1982 season while Bo and Luke were off trying their luck in NASCAR, to complete his collection of living cast members.
Clingan’s said his favorite character was the Duke’s nemesis, Boss Hogg, played by Sorrell Booke.
“To me he was the star of the show,” Clingan said of Booke.
Clingan had his wife, Michelle, and son, Henry, in tow as he moved through the line to get Schneider’s signature.
Though Henry is only 4 years old, Bobby Clingan said “The Dukes of Hazzard” is Henry’s favorite show, watching the DVDs regularly.
“We have every season,” Bobby Clingan said. “There is nothing better to watch.”
The collection used to include the 2005 movie based on the television series staring Jessica Simpson, Johnny Knoxvile and Seann William Scott.
“I gave it away,” Clingan said.
Sam Hughes drove about two hours from Martin to get Schneider and Wopat’s autographs on the body of the Polaris go-cart belonging his 6-year-old son, Jordan.
“We hit the road about 8 a.m. this morning” Sam Hughes said.
Though it is not a Charger body, the go-cart is painting “General Lee” orange.
“He has been a bid Dukes fan since he was about 3 years old. Hughes said of Jordan as they waited in line to get Wopat’s signature.
