Our ‘Royal Baby’ arrives

Macy Carnes is a 'princess' to her family

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

Less than two hours after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal baby was born on Monday, London, Ky.’s own ‘royal baby’ was born at Saint Joseph London.

Kate and William’s baby was born at 4:24 p.m. in England, and since they are five hours ahead of Kentucky in time, it would have been 11:24 a.m. here.

Sarah Carnes of Gray gave birth to a baby girl, Macy Elizabeth Carnes, at 1:18 p.m., less than two hours later. She weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces, while the royal baby weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces.

Sarah, Justin, and the whole family of aunts, uncles, and grandparents had been keeping up with what was known as the Kate Wait.

“I was hoping she would be born on the same day,” Sarah said. “It would be really cool.”

Macy is the couple’s first child, who was also born on the same day as Sarah’s sister, 8-year-old Isabelle Mills.

“We can celebrate our birthdays together,” Isabelle said.

Since Sarah’s middle name is Elizabeth, she wanted her baby to have the same middle name.

Helen Mills, Macy’s great-grandmother, said the family was as proud as Kate’s, “but we may not have the money.”

Sindy Mills, one of Macy’s grandmothers, said, “While everyone was waiting on Kate, we were waiting on Princess Macy.”

Justin said the baby will be as spoiled as the prince because she has six grandparents.

Sarah, 21, works at Barbourville Nursing Home and Justin, 22, works with his father and attends Union College.

While the royal baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince of Cambridge, third in line to the throne of Great Britain, London, Ky.’s ‘royal baby’ will always be the whole family’s precious princess.
