LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — The annual craft show, Sights and Sounds of Christmas, will take place on Nov. 29 and 30 at the London Community Center.

The show will be open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Admission costs $2 for adults and children under 12 are free.

It will feature exhibits from 44 local artists and vendors who will be selling handcrafted goods, including Jeannie Zanet.

For the last five years, Zanet has made fresh cut swags, a decorative arrangement of fresh cut flowers and greenery.

Zanet said she began making swags after she took a class at the Laurel County Cooperative Extension Office.

“After taking the class the extension office put on, I really fell in love with it and I’ve been making swags seasonally for the last five years,” Zanet said.

According to Zanet, she can only make the decorative item in the colder winter season.  She waits until the second week of November to cut greens so that her product will stay greener longer.

If you don’t cut at the right time, they die faster, Zanet said.  Waiting until November allows the swag to stay fresher longer.

"I’ve had people tell me that the swag they bought from me stayed green until February."

Zanet said swags are a wonderful Christmas decoration idea and they liven up any home during the winter season.

Zanet also plans to bring altered bottles, bottles decorated with lace ribbons and other things, to the annual craft show this year.

In the past, she has used her love of photography to create handmade cards, although this is something that she doesn’t anticipate being able to do this year due to a busy personal schedule.

Zanet will have her products on display Friday and Saturday and says she thinks she has enough swags made up to meet demand and keep homes decorated beautifully during this holiday season.
