Abandoned meth lab explodes

Burned clothing found at scene indicates possible injuries

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Some burned clothing are the sole signs that an exploding meth lab may have injured the person(s) who activated it and police are now seeking information on the owner.

The meth lab was found around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 in a parking lot off Stone Road, off Old Union Church Road, approximately two miles south of London.

Laurel Sheriff’s Deputies Milton Storm and Steve Hoskins answered the call of the abandoned lab. They then notified Deputy James Sizemore, Detective Brad Mitchell and Detective Billy Madden to dismantle the remains of the one-step meth lab. Sizemore, Mitchell, and Madden have undergone training in the proper techniques used in dismantling and neutralizing the toxic labs.

During the investigation of the meth lab, deputies found the burned clothing, which indicated that the lab might have exploded and possibly injured the person(s) involved.

However, no victim of the chemical burns have yet been seen at area hospitals for treatment, and no suspects have yet been identified.

Anyone with information on the person or persons responsible for the meth lab is urged to contact the Laurel Sheriff’s Office at (606) 864-6600 or Laurel Dispatch at (606) 878-7000. Callers may remain anonymous.
