Woman charged with stabbing

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

A Lily woman is charged with stabbing a friend on Friday night after an alleged argument.

Michelle F. Smith, 41, of Gotham Lane in Lily, is charged with first-degree assault, domestic violence, after she reportedly stabbed Gilbert Smith multiple times with a kitchen butcher knife around 9:30 p.m.

The stabbing incident occurred after the two, who had been drinking together, engaged in an argument at which time Michelle Smith allegedly got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Gilbert Smith numerous times.

Michelle Smith had fled the scene on Line Creek Road, seven miles west of London, before Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies Daniel Grigsby, Mikey Ashurst and Kevin Berry and Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter arrived. What they did find was Gilbert Smith bleeding from the stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County before being flown out to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

On Saturday, Deputy Robbie Grimes and Constable Tim May located Michelle Smith at a residence on Rough Creek Road, southeast of London. She was arrested at that time for alcohol intoxication in a public place.
