LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — After celebrating their 100th birthday last year, the Girl Scouts are bringing a whole new look to their annual cookie sales in 2013.

Officially beginning on Jan. 1, Girl Scouts are now taking orders for the popular favorites as well as a new cookie this year — the Mango Creme. The Mango Creme is a vanilla and coconut cookie with a tangy mango filling. The filling is also fortified with essential fruit oils for a more nutritious snack.

Of course, the ever-popular Caramel Delights, Thin Mints, lemon, and two offerings of peanut butter cookies will also be on the order form for this year’s cookie sales.

Also new this year is the design of the cookie boxes. Each cookie box now features a sash with Girl Scout badges and a short description of what each badge represents. The organization wants the public to understand the goals set by Girl Scout troops.

The initial order-taking period for Girl Scout cookies will run through the end of January, with delivery of the cookies scheduled for the week of Feb. 18. Girl Scout members will continue to take cookie orders with booth sales beginning in March.

Cookies are $3.50 per box. Each troop earns 50 cents per box of cookies sold, to assist with troop functions. This is the primary fundraising effort for Girl Scout troops each year. Individuals can also designate if they want their purchase to be sent to military troops through Operation Cookie Share.

To order your Girl Scout cookies, contact any Girl Scout troop, most of which are located at area schools, or the Girl Scout office at (606) 878-8535.
