LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — In a brief meeting on Monday night, the Laurel County Fiscal Court approved a resolution for an expansion at Hearthside Food Solutions.

The expansion, according to the company’s website, will add a production line to its current plant and will create 80 more jobs. The project is expected to cost $1.4 million.

Hearthside Food Solutions, formerly the Laurel Cookie Factory, is headquartered in Downers Grove, Ill., and is the nation’s largest independent bakery. It manufactures high quality grain-based food and snack products for some of the world’s largest premier brands.

In other business, Laurel County Judge Executive David Westerfield told the court that posters were being distributed throughout the Laurel County Courthouse and were causing problems for maintenance. Westerfield said posters and signs would be limited to the front lobby of the courthouse where racks are available for those items. Westerfield said the posters were often stacked outside and on the walls in the courthouse and “were scattered all over the floor” on several occasions.

The $50,000 yearly salary for a jail employee was not approved during Monday night’s meeting. Laurel County Jailer Jamie Mosley was not present for the meeting but had submitted a request that the fiscal court approve jail employee, Marty Robinson, for a $50,000 annual salary. Westerfield said the issue “died” for lack of a motion. Westerfield said he would contact Mosley regarding the issue.

The next meeting of the Laurel County Fiscal Court will be Thursday, Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. in the Laurel County Courthouse third-floor courtroom.
