Sheriff’s Office conducts extra patrols

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — With crime rates of burglaries, break-ins and thefts continuing to plague residents and law enforcement officials, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is taking a proactive approach.

The Sheriff’s Office is offering extra patrols to assist residents who are away from home.

“We’ve had a lot of calls from people, asking if we can check by their house when they are going to be away for a few days,” said Laurel County John Root. “With springtime coming and vacations being planned, people are concerned about their home and property so we will do the ‘Away from Home’ patrols. We will drive by, spotlight the area and make sure that no one is there that shouldn’t be.”

The “Away from Home Patrols” can be obtained by simply emailing your information, such as the dates and times of your absence and the area of your residence.

“People want to make sure their home is safe and what they have when they leave is what they have when they come back,” said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, who also serves as public affairs officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

“All people have to do is let us know when they will be away and we can do extra patrols while they are gone.”

Information can be emailed to lso1133@windstream.net. For those not utilizing email, they can call the sheriff’s office at (606) 864-6600.

The “Away from Home” patrols are just another community service offered by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, which is what Sheriff John Root advocates for his employees and to the community.

“We are here to protect and serve and that’s what we will continue to do,” Root said.
