WILLIAMSBURG—After nearly a week away from the diamond, the North Laurel Jaguars shook off the cobwebs in a 10-0 win at Whitley County on Monday night.
“We have been off since last Tuesday,” North Laurel coach Shane Weaver said. “We didn’t do anything over the weekend because of the prom. We aren’t as sharp as we were when we left, but we are going to get back into the swing of it this week and get back there.”
Carrie Cobb stole the show by fanning seven of the nine batters she faced and did not allow a hit in three innings of pay. Cobb struck out the order twice.
“She’s Ms. Consistency,” Weaver said. “That’s about all I can say. That is the advantage of having her. We can go to that and feel comfortable about it. Hopefully we can get everybody around her back to where we were.”
Megan Taylor and Rachel Akins got the show started with back to back doubles. Akins traded places with Taylor to give the Jaguars the 1-0 advantage. Ashley Wampler drove in Akins for the 2-0 lead.
Kelsi Smith drove in Courtney Brock and Logan Taylor on a hard hit double for the 4-0 advantage. Brock and Taylor both reached on a single. Akins rounded out the second inning with an RBI for the 5-0 lead.
Taylor and Taylor pushed the lead to 8-0 with RBI singles as Brock squeezed in a run on a passed ball.
The Jaguars stepped up in the fourth inning and decided to call it a short day at work as they took a 10-0 advantage on a Gloriann Cordero two run single for the 10-run rule.
“We’ll be all right,” Weaver said. “This is a game without any kind of practice. It’s not lost we will just have to get it back.”
The Jaguars have rescheduled a road game with Ryle that will take place on Friday and Weaver is happy to get it back on the schedule.
“I think this game will help us refocus in practice this week,” Weaver said. “So that’s another positive.”
North Laurel was on the road at Rockcastle Co. last night, and are scheduled to host Garrard Co. on Thursday.
