Laurel Co. blanks Tri-Cities, 10-0

Advances in Little League girls tourney

When you mix a little North and a little South, you end up with a lot of talent as the Laurel County Little League All-Stars proved on Saturday by cruising by the Tri-Cities All-Stars 10-0 in four innings.

A team of hard hitters and solid pitchers turned out to be too much for the Tri-Cities All-Stars. Laurel County threw four different pitchers in four innings and did not allow a run in a dominating performance.

Bailey Miller, Megan Bryant, Tori Bell and Hagan Burns all saw action on the mound.

“Everybody got some work,” Laurel County coach Steve Elkins said. “The good thing is everybody has thrown some so if I need them later we will be in good shape.”

Laurel County jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first inning and where able to adjust to different speeds of pitching.

“We seen some slow pitching and some decent pitching,” Elkins said. “They worked on all of it. They waited on the slow and hit the quicker ones.”

Laurel County added five more runs in the second inning for an 8-0 advantage and finished things off with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Elkins finished with a triple and a double on the day. Burns hit a double and a single while Jennna Carney added a double.

After winning the state championship with the North Laurel squad last season, Elkins understands what it takes to claim a title and has his sights set on another one.

“We did fair,” Elkins said. “We’ve got room to improve, but I’m satisfied. We’re halfway where we want to be.”
