LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
North Laurel’s Ashley Woolum captured first place in four events at Saturday’s South Laurel Invitational track and field meet, earning her top female in the event.
Woolum won the high jump, long jump, triple jump and 100 hurdles to help her team to a third place finish. South Laurel finished in fourth place.
The North boys won the event with 215 points, while South Laurel placed third.
North’s Samantha Proffitt also turned in a fine performance with a first, second and two third place finishes. South’s Alyssa Hamilton had a first and second place. For the boys, North’s Gregory Randolph won two events, while teammates Corey Hyde had two firsts and a second, Layne Gaynor had a first and second, Drew Marcum, a first, second and fourth, and Andrew Kidd had a first and third. South’s Tyler Detherage brought home a first and second.
In the girls’ 100, South Laurel’s Mariah House placed fourth with a time of 14.56. South’s Kaylee Maxey came in sixth (15.11), while North Laurel’s Mikayla Nunley (seventh, 16.37) and Haylee Harris (eighth, 16.74) round out the scoring. Knox Central’s Jazmene Taylor won with a time of 13.54. The girls’ 200 was also won by Taylor with a time of 27.74. South’s House placed fifth (31.80), North’s Ariel Asher, sixth (34.83), South’s Kathleen Kovach, seventh (35.37) and North’s Nunley, eighth (36.12).
In the girls’ 400, Nikki Marcum of North Laurel took fourth place with a time of 1:14.45. Her teammate, Tanacia Abner, came in fifth in 1:17.97, and South’s Laurence Beliveau paced sixth in 1:22.33. The event was won by Lacey Gastineau of Rockcastle County with a time of 1:04.37. The girls’ 800 was won by Sabrina Elliott of Knox Central with a time of 2:52.47. North’s Marcum placed fourth (3:06.06), while South’s Helena Beliveau took fifth (3:20.78) and Hayden Combs, sixth (3:24.45).
The girls’ 1600 was also won by Elliott with a time of 5:54.62. Second place went to South Laurel’s Alyssa Hamilton in 6:22.24, while Annie Sharp of South came in fifth in 7:13.68. The 3200 was won by South’s Hamilton with a time of 13:38.59.
In the girls’ 100 hurdles, North’s Ashley Woolum won with a time of 17.12. North’s Haley Brock came in fourth in 24.12. The 300 hurdles saw South’s Alyson Croley take second with a tome of 1:01.11, while teammate Allison Smith came in third in 1:02.13. North’s Haley Brock came in fifth (1:05.74) and Ariel Asher, sixth (1:07.50). Jennifer Mercer of Rockcastle County won the event in 55.14.
The girls’ 4x100 relay was won by Knox Central ‘A’ with a time of 54.71. South Laurel ‘A’ took third (1:02.70) and North Laurel ‘A’, fourth (1:04.99). The girls’ 4x400 was won by South Laurel ‘A’ with a time of 4:46.79, while North Laurel ‘A’ came in fourth in 5:30.03. The 4x800 relay, won by Rockcastle County ‘A’ in 11:21.18, saw South Laurel ‘A’ come in third (11:52.13) and North Laurel ‘A’, fourth (12:49.05.
Ashley Woolum’s second first place came in the high jump where she cleared 4-10. Her North Laurel teammate, Samantha Proffitt, also cleared 4-10 to take second. Mariah House of South placed third at 4-8, and South’s Alyson Croley came in fifth at 3-10. Proffitt won the pole vault when she cleared 7-0, while teammate Tara Egner came in third at 6-0. Woolum won the long jump with a distance of 16-2.50, with Proffitt coming in third at 15-6. Logan Joyce of South Laurel placed sixth (13-7) and Amy Cummins, also of South Laurel, came in eighth at 11-0.
The triple jump was also claimed by Woolum with a distance of 34-10, while Proffitt took third at 31-6. In the shot put, South’s Kelcy Arnold came in second at 24-4, behind first place Amy Johnson of Rockcastle County’s 30-0. Krista Marker (NL) took fifth (23-7), South’s Kathleen Kovach, sixth (22-0), and North’s Tara Egner, eighth (21-1). In the discus, North’s Egner placed fourth (63-2), South’s Arnold, fifth (59-3), North’s Marka, seventh (50-7) and South’s Amy Cummins, eighth (48-5). Johnson of Rockcastle County also won this event at 90-3.
In the boys’ 100, South took second and third (Austin Hayes, 12.36, Austin Phelps, 13.15) behind Knox Central’s Jonathan Gist’s 12.14. North’s Chance Lambert came in fifth (13.82) and Logan Hacker, sixth (15.28). Gist also won the 200 in 25.11, with South’s Sam Gaskin placing third (26.29), Austin Phelps, fourth (26.84) and North’s Ben Barnes, fifth (27.18). Lonnie Taylor of Knox Central won the 400 in 57.27. North’s Garrett Napier placed third (59.15), South’s Austin Smith, fifth (1:00.96) and Patrick DeRose, seventh (1:04.92). Gregory Randolph of North won the 800 with a time of 2:07.93, with teammate Garrett Napier taking second (2:18.20), South’s Vince Holcomb, fourth (2:31.31) and Patrick DeRose, sixth (2:43.40).
Randolph also captured the 1600 in 4:52.45, with teammate Layne Gaynor taking second in 5:01.09. Jonathan Hamilton (SL) took third (5:29.90) and Justin Phelps (SL), fourth (5:33.50). The 3200 was won by North’s Layne Gaynor (10:37.33), with teammate Garrison Burchell placing second (10:39.71). South’s Daniel Poston took fourth (13:00.31) and Brendon McCormick, seventh (14:32.29).
The 110 hurdles was won by North’s Corey Hyde with a tie of 17.03, with teammate Thomas Melton taking second in 19.42. The 300 hurdles was also won by Hyde in 45.20, while Melton came in third (49.43) and South’s Skylar Queen, fifth (1:00.50).
In the 4x100, Jenkins Independent ‘A’ won in 51.78, with South Laurel ‘A’ taking third (57.53) and North Laurel ‘A’, fourth (1:06.42). South Laurel ‘A’ won the 4x200 in 1:47.18, with North Laurel ‘A’ placing fourth (2:02.17). North Laurel ‘A’ won the 4x400 in 4:00.58 with South Laurel ‘A’ taking second in 4:07.22. North Laurel ‘A’ also captured the 4x800 with a time of 8:53.23, with South Laurel ‘A’ again placing second with a time of 9:57.74.
North’s Corey Hyde took second in the high jump at 5-4, two inches lower than Jonathan Gist of Knox Central, who cleared the bar at 5-6. Drew Marcum of North placed fourth at 5-0. In the pole vault, North placed 1-2 with Andrew Kidd taking first and Aaron Nelson, second, both clearing 9-6. In the long jump, Marcum of North took second at 17-4.50, as Gist of Knox Central won at 19-4. North’s Kidd took third (17-4), South’s Austin Hayes, fourth (16-2) and Sam Gaskin, sixth (14-10). Marcum came back to win the triple jump at 39-5, with Kidd taking third (33-10) and Gaskin, fourth (29-10).
The shot put was won by South’s Travis Burns at 38-2, with teammate Tyler Detherage taking second (36-1) and North’s Ben Barnes third (25-3) and Zach Flint, fifth (15-10). Detherage won the discus with a throw of 89-0, with teammate Cheyene Miller taking second (78-6), North’s Caleb Osborne, third (75-10), and Flint, sixth (40-0).
