Huge pro-am MMA card in Corbin Saturday

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — “This will be the most non-stop, action-packed card from the first fight to the main event.”

That was the guarantee of Michael Peters, who was discussing Saturday’s Mixed Martial Arts event at the Old Corbin Civic Center.

“This is a pro-am event,” Peters said. “It’s the first one in Corbin in two or three years. We’ve got fighters from four different states coming in. They are coming from Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama, plus right here in Kentucky in Toy Soldiers and Tim Hedrick Academy. We already have 15 fights booked, but it could turn out to be 17 or 18 fights.”

The main event will be two light heavyweights pros going at it as Gary Young will battle Chase Lloyd. Another bout scheduled has Jeremy Durham facing Brian Kilgore.

A card like this cannot be put on without the help of sponsors, and this event is being sponsored by Huddle House, Everything Exotic by Crystal, Crystal Clear Photography (owner Crystal Vaughn) and Quality Inn.

Peters and Vaughn have known each other for 18 years. Peters talked Vaughn into attending her first MMA card, and since then, she has been hooked.

“I went to my first fight and loved it,” Vaughn said. “It’s addictive, especially when you are videotaping and photographing it.”

“There’s not many women who are into MMA like Crystal is,” Peters said.

Greg Tarvin, owner of Huddle House, went to his first MMA card back in January, and had a good time.

“I really enjoyed it,” Tarvin said. “Everybody that went that I talked to plans on going back again. It was a pretty good experience. It’s all action. They come out swinging.”

“I would also like to thank Kelly Harrison of Whitley County EMS and Joey Patel of Quality Inn,” Peters said.

Fans are invited to Huddle House in Corbin on Saturday to meet some of the fighters. Crystal Clear Photography will be on hand to take photographs.

“Fans who think the last show was good, well, this one will be mind-blowing,” Peters said. “We are blowing the lid off Corbin.”

Tickets are $20 general admission, $25 ringside, and $200 for a VIP table that seats six.
