Woolum, Randolph break NL records

Pulaski, Rockcastle win team titles at NL Invitational

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Ashley Woolum and Gregory Randolph set new school records during the North Laurel Invitational track and field meet Saturday.

Woolum broke her own high jump record when she cleared 5-2, while Randolph set a new school record in the 1600 with a time of 4:41.34, which placed him third in the event.

“It was a good meet for our first invitational,” coach Kevin Bradford said. “I would like to thank all of the parents, volunteers and former athletes who worked to make this a successful event.”

Rockcastle County won the girls’ meet with 155 points. North Laurel finished third with 91.50. Pulaski County won the boys’ meet with 179 points, while North Laurel again placed third with 88.

In the girls’ 100, Somerset’s Akesh Kirkpatrick won the event with a time of 13.10. North Laurel’s Haylee Harris came in 16th in 16.30. Michaela Hunter of Rockcastle County took first in the 200 with a time of 26.80. Harris finished in 16th (35.02) and Mikayla Nunley, 17th (35.96). Hunter also won the 400 with a time of 1:01.05. North’s Nikki Marcum came in ninth (1:15.02) and Tanacia Abner, 11th (1:20.96).

Green County’s Baylee Shofner won the 800 in 2:33.16. North Laurel’s Hiba Khan came in 11th in 3:54.67. Alliah Fueller of Muhlenberg County won the 1600 with a time of 5:35.40. North’s Sierra Hedrick came in 11th in 7:43.77. In the 3200, Lindsey Mathis of Muhlenberg County claimed first in 12:25.89, with North’s Ariel Asher placing 10th in 18:06.56.

Ashley Woolum won the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.63, with Haley Brock taking fifth in 22.66. In the 300 hurdles, Jennifer Mercer of Pulaski County, who finished second in the 100, took first with a time of 52.36. Brock came in seventh (1:05.27) and Ariel Asher, ninth (1:07.92).

Somerset ‘A’ won the 4x100  in 56.38 with North Laurel ‘A’ coming in sixth in 1:07.09. Somerset ‘A’ also won the 4x200 with a time of 1:53.69, with North Laurel ‘A’ coming in sixth in 2:24.63. Rockcastle County ‘A’ won the 4x400 in 4:29.75. North Laurel ‘A’ came in sixth in 5:42.82. The 4x800 was won by Rockcastle County ‘A’ with a time of 11:02.05. North Laurel ‘A’ came in fifth in 13:14.76.

Ashley Woolum cleared 5-2 to win the high jump, with teammate Samantha Proffitt coming in second at 4-6. Samantha Proffitt took first in the pole vault when she cleared 7-0, easily beating the second place height of 6-6. Tara Egner took fourth at 6-0. Michaela Hunter of Rockcastle County won the long jump at 17-01.25, with Ashley Woolum coming in third (16-03.00) and Samantha Proffitt, fourth (15-06.50). The triple jump was also won by Hunter at an even 37 feet. Woolum came in second (35-8.75) and Proffitt, fourth (31 feet).

In the shot put, Amy Johnson of Rockcastle County won with a distance of 33-03.00, with Krista Marker of North taking sixth (26-02.50) and Tara Egner, 10th (23-03.00). Johnson also took first in the discus at 111-06. Egner came in sixth (71-07) while Marker took ninth (52-00).

Josh O’Connor of Pulaski County won the boys’ 100 in 11.53. He also took first in the 200 at 23.48, edging out Donovan Burton of Green County’s 23.75. North Laurel’s Chance Lambert took eight at 1:00.48.  Somerset’s Christian Adams took first in the 400 at 53.71, with Lambert coming in eighth at 1:00.48. In the 800, Austin Hyden of Pulaski County won with a time of 2:02.58, while Gregory Randolph came in third at 2:07.05 and Noah Smith, 16th, 2:52.75. Chase Geary of Muhlenberg County won the 1600 with a time of 4:32.01, with Randolph placing third (4:41.34) and Layne Gaynor, sixth (4:54.39). Geary also took first in the 3200 in 9:55.25, with Gaynor placing fifth in 10:35.64.

North’s Corey Hyde won the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.18, with Thomas Melton taking seventh in 19.53. Cody Houchens, who took second in the 110 hurdles, came back to win the 300 hurdles in 43.36, while Hyde took fourth (47.59) and Melton, 13th (52.64).

Pulaski County ‘A’ won the 4x100 relay in 47.98, with North Laurel ‘A’ taking third in 1:02.38. Green County ‘A’ won the 4x200 in 1:34.95 while North Laurel ‘A’ placed seventh in 2:07.52. Pulaski County ‘A’ won the 4x400 in 3:41.26, and North Laurel ‘A’ took fourth in 3:53.20. North Laurel ‘A’ won the 4x800 in 8:52.44.

Austin Hyden of Pulaski County cleared 6-4 to win the high jump, with Corey Hyde coming in third (5-6) and Drew Marcum, fourth (5-6). Jacob Heinin of Pulaski County cleared 12-0 to win the pole vault, beating North’s Andrew Kidd’s second place height of 10-0. Thomas Navalta of Green County won the long jump at 20-04.00, with Andrew Kidd of North coming in ninth at 16-07.75. Brian Obino of Somerset took first in the triple jump with a distance of 40-07.50. Navalta of Green County came in second at 40-05.50. North’s Drew Marcum took fourth (38-02.50) and Andrew Kidd, seventh (33-06.50). Dako Westmoreland of Green County won the shot put at 42-03.25, while North’s Zach Flint came in 12th at 16-01.25. Westmoreland also took first in the discus at 149-01, while Flint came in 13th at 41-08.
