Cards go 1-2 in S.C.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — CHARLESTON, S.C.—A five-run sixth inning allowed Wando, S.C., to take a 10-7 win over South Laurel in the Hananhan Invitational.

The Cards finished play with a 1-2 record in South Carolina.

South Laurel fell behind 3-1, but came back to score three runs in the top of the third for a 4-3 lead. After Wando tied the game, the Cards scored a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 7-5 lead.

But that would be all the offense the Cards could muster, as Wando scored five runs in the sixth inning for the win.

Alex Sears was 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and three runs batted in. Daniel Neal went 2-for-4 with a double.

South Laurel 9, Marist, Ill. 6

South’s second game saw them rebound from the loss to Summerville and take a 9-6 win over Marist, Ill.

Austin Vigeant picked up the win for the Cards, while at the plate, Trent Abner went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Joe Gaines was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Austin Moore and Brennan both homered for the Cards.

South scored three in the both the second and third innings and led 7-3. The lead grew to 9-5 after five.

Summerville, S.C. 14, South Laurel 5

In the opener, the Cards fell to Summerville, S.C., 14-5. The Cards had early leads of 3-0 and 4-1 before Summerville scored 13 runs over the final five innings to take the win.

Trent Abner finished the day 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored, while Alex Sears was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Daniel Neal went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Cards return home tonight to host Williamsburg in a key 50th District game, then will travel to Williamsburg Tuesday.
