LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Laurel County Jailer Jamie Mosley, a veteran of professional auto racing, is scheduled to drive in today’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Feed the Children 300 at Kentucky Speedway.
Driving in his home state in one of professional racing’s premiere competitive series is a thrill for the 42-year-old Mosley, who was elected jailer in November after a career in law enforcement and private business.
“It will be great to drive in Kentucky, with a lot of my family and friends in the stands,” said Mosley, who has also driven at Nashville, Chicago, Charlotte and several other major speedways and racetracks. “Kentucky Speedway is a great track. I’ve driven there before. Anytime you get to drive in a NASCAR race is a thrill, but doing it in Kentucky makes it even better.”
Kentucky Jailers Association President Mike Simpson said Mosley’s fellow jailers are proud of him and his accomplishments in professional racing.
“To have one of our own driving in a NASCAR race right here in Kentucky is very exciting,” said Simpson, the Oldham County jailer. “We have a lot of NASCAR fans among our members, and I’m sure they’ll be pulling for Jamie.”
Mosley has no difficulty performing his duties as jailer while racing professionally. Earlier in his career Mosley worked as a Kentucky State Police Dispatcher and operated a business - Interstate Sign Supply – while driving on the NASCAR Busch, ARCA RE/MAX and Camping World Truck series.
“I’m the jailer,” Mosley said. “It’s a full-time job that I love, and I appreciate the opportunity to hold the office. I’ve been racing most of my life, and I know how to handle the time commitments without it interfering with my job or official duties.”
Mosley was just 7 years old when he began racing go-karts. By the time he was 16, he was racing on local short tracks in Kentucky. His NASCAR career began in 2003 when he competed in the Busch Series, which today is known as the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Mosley has made 12 starts in the Busch series. He last raced at Kentucky Speedway in the 2007 Meier 300.
Mosley’s current sponsors include Telmate, Corrisoft Air and Advanced Correctional Healthcare.
The NASCAR Nationwide Series Feed the Children 300 is June 29 at 7 p.m. at The Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. The race will be broadcast on ESPN2 and PRN radio.
