LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
MANCHESTER—Knox County claimed the 9-10 year old boys’ district title with a 10-5 win over North Laurel Green Sunday.
This was a rematch of the winner’s bracket finals, also won by Knox County, 12-6.
North’s Blake VanHook hit a two-run homer in the second to tie the game at 2-2, while his teammate, Cameron Cotton, smacked a solo homer in the sixth.
Knox County used a five-run fourth inning to blow the game open, highlighted by a two-run homer from Evan Landrum. An inning earlier, Zach Messer blasted a three-run shot.
North Laurel defeated Corbin in the loser’s bracket finals, 11-6.
Corbin took a 2-0 lead before North came back with five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-2 lead.
North upped the lead to 7-2 before Corbin came back in the third to close the margin to 7-4. A three-run fifth helped North take an 11-4 lead.
In the winner’s bracket finals, Knox County took a 5-1 lead in the second inning and never looked back, beating North Laurel, 12-6.
The lead would grow to 7-1 before North came back in the third to score three runs on four hits. Noah Rogers singled, Ty Baker beat out a bunt single, and Colby Howard smacked a two-run double. VanHook then doubled in another run to make it 7-4.
Knox would continued to build on its lead and held a 12-4 advantage before North scored twice in the fifth to close the gap to 12-6.
