South sets up showdown with North Laurel

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — South London came out hitting and made short work of Tri-City in Saturday’s opening round of the Girl’s 9-10 All Stars District Tournament. South London scored enough runs in the first three innings to end the game early, 12-1.

South London then held on for a 3-2 win over Pulaski County Sunday to set up a meeting with North Laurel Wednesday in the finals of the winner’s bracket.

South London scored more than enough runs in the first inning Saturday against Tri-City, beginning with a leadoff double by Gracie Jervis. An error would allow Jervis to keep running until she crossed home. Tori North followed with an infield single. Kenzie Jervis drove in the second run with a single that eluded the leaping Tri-City shortstop. Karly Johnson added an RBI single to make it a 3-0 lead.

North and Kenzie Jervis singled and scored in the second inning, but the big shot was a three-run inside-the-park homer by Emily Dalton. Dalton would add another three-run shot in the third inning. North and Kenzie Jervis also had RBI singles in the inning as North made it a 12-0 game.

Kenzie Jervis held Tri-City hitless in her two innings of work. Dalton would pitch the final two innings. Tri-City had a pair of base runners from walks in the third inning when Hannah Johnson hit a soft pop-up into no-man’s land behind second base. That would be the only run and only hit for Tri-City.

North, Johnson, and Kenzie Jervis each had three hits with North scoring three runs. Dalton finished the day with six RBIs.

South London had a tougher time with Pulaski County Sunday before pulling out the 3-2 win. Gracie Jervis struck out 15 batters and allowed just one hit.

South London led 2-0 in the fifth inning before walks allowed Pulaski County to rally. South London then ended the game with a run in the sixth inning.
