Stephen Hogan blazed through the redesigned Pepsi/Gatorade 5K course on Saturday morning with an impressive time of 17:13, then greeted nearly every runner as they crossed the line.

Hogan was pleased with his time and also enjoyed the course. Hogan is a resident of Mount Vernon and runs five miles each day.

“Yeah I’m happy,” Hogan said. “This is my kind of course, it has a lot of hills and a big down hill at the end. It was a lot of fun.”

Shelly Scheithauer was the first female to finish the race. Scheithauer is a former member of the University of the Cumberlands track team and finished in 22nd place with a time of 21:16.

“It was tough,” Scheithauer said. “It was fun though.”

In all, 138 runners competed in this year’s event, which took place in perfect weather conditions.
