LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
BOWLING GREEN—London’s Keaton Kennedy and his soccer club, Bluegrass 97 White Team, won the Kentucky State Cup championship with a 3-2 win over Lexington Futbol Club on June 3.
This win is the first State Cup title won by a Bluegrass Soccer Club boys’ team.
Kennedy’s squad scored early in the match and held a 3-1 lead at the half. The team then played solid defense in the second half and secured the championship.
Kennedy is the only player on the roster from London. The majority of the team are from Scott County.
To get to the finals, Bluegrass 97 had an extremely tough tournament draw, having to defeat three Midwest Regional level teams and the Greater Cincinnati League champions. The team will now travel to Saginaw, Michigan for regional competition. The team is coached by Marcel Simo.
Members of the team are: Zac Blaydes, Jackson Napier, Thomas Hayes, Jack Batman, Keaton Kennedy, Nolan Moser, Jonathan Rase, Corey Smith, Noah Valencia, Garrett Pritchert, Zach Yohon, Sam Hatfield, Chase Tranter, Jarrod Franchino, Edwin Garcia and Trevor Watkins.
