LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — The Lady Jaguars may be saving their best for last.

In the final home game for three North Laurel seniors, improved passing and hard shots paved the way to a 6-0 win over Somerset.

“We played very well tonight. I was very pleased,” North Laurel coach Becki Woodworth said. “We played as well as we probably had all year as far as just cohesion is concerned.”

It was the third win in the last four games for North Laurel. The Lady Jaguars scored six goals in each of those wins after scoring six or more in just two of the previous 14 games. Tuesday it was also the way the goals were scored that pleased the coach.

“We had some nice goals with a lot of assists. That always makes for nice goals when you are working together to get them,” Woodworth said.

The first goal came about eight minutes into the contest when Kayla Huff passed ahead to Allison Blanton for a breakaway. Blanton finished strong, something the Lady Jaguars have been working on.

Mollie Dotson didn’t need much help to score the second goal. Dotson took the ball from a defender and finished with another strong kick.

The third goal came with 6:45 in the half. It was a patient shot by Blanton for her second goal.

“Alli played phenomenal tonight. She played very smart soccer, planning ahead,” Woodworth said.

The scoring picked up quickly to start the second half with Chelsea Hensley earning the assist on the goal by senior Amy Corum.

“Chelsea passed the ball wide and Amy just chipped the keeper. Very nice long shot,” Woodworth said.

Dotson scored her second goal on an assist from Hensley for a 5-0 lead.

The final goal came from Makayla Ramos Wilson. The freshman has played a lot of midfield this season, but was moved to the front after scoring three goals in the first half of a junior varsity game.

“She’s playing better and better every game. I put her up top just to see what she could do and she ripped that shot. That was a beautiful shot,” Woodworth said. “She is playing with confidence right now and that is huge for us.”

Tuesday also marked the third shutout in four games for North Laurel with senior keeper Kendall Ellington only needing to make a handful of stops.

“Defensively we played solid. We were able to work on some things,” Woodworth said. “Somerset is a young team, but they aren’t a bad team. It was really good to have a little bit of competition and play so well against a decent team.”

The Lady Jaguars had one final regular season game scheduled Thursday against Danville.

“That will be a good test for us and prepare us to head into Corbin. We are ready,” Woodworth said.

The Lady Jaguars open 49th District Tournament play Monday against Corbin at South Laurel.
