LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla.—After a disappointing 7-0 loss to Marshall County in its opener, North Laurel bounced back Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Obion County Central (TN) in the Florida Softball Beach Bash.

“We played like the old North Laurel that actually had some fire behind them. I heard one of the girls say that they were sick of losing,” North Laurel coach Becky Osborne said.

Megan Baldwin returned to the mound to record the shutout. Baldwin left Monday’s game with Marshall County with an elbow injury.

“She pitched good. Everybody down here is a good hitting team.  We haven’t faced a team yet that is not,” Osborne said.

North Laurel dropped the second game of the doubleheader to Crestview (FL) lost 3-2. The Lady Jaguars led 1-0 early and didn’t trail until the fifth inning.

“We played good. We almost rallied in the last inning and then we had a couple of fly ball outs to end the game,” Osborne said.

North Laurel’s game with North Hardin was rained out Wednesday. The Lady Jaguars were scheduled to play host Fort Walton Beach (FL) before heading home.

“We’re hitting the ball a lot better. Quite a bit better,” Osborne said. “Vanessa Smith had a great day at the plate and McKenzie Mills. Vanessa is playing the best for us right now.”

North Laurel will jump straight into district seeding when it returns to Kentucky with games Tuesday against Clay County and Jackson County in Manchester.
