LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — .C.—The North Laurel Jaguars wrapped up their trip in the Hanahan Classic by falling to West Ashley, S.C., 8-1.

With the loss North falls to 5-6 on the season and 1-2 in the tournament.

“It was a closer game than the score showed,” coach Darren McWhorter said. “I thought our pitchers threw well. It was only 3-1 going into the seventh inning and that’s when they scored five runs to put things away.”

North’s lone run came when Marcus Carson got a hit, reached second on a passed ball and scored on a passed ball.

“Their pitcher was really, really good,” McWhorter said. He threw about 87 miles and hour and his curve ball was hitting 80.

North Laurel 4, Bishop Ireton 3

The Jags scored four runs in the fifth inning to break open a scoreless game, then held off Bishop to win, 4-3. Bishop scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull to within one.

Weston Griebel picked up the win, going five innings before he gave way to Carson, who pitched the final two innings for the save.

“Weston did a good job for us,” McWhorter said. “It was a good win to get. They were solid and anytime you can get a win down here it’s big.”

The Jaguars will host McCreary Central tonight and Jackson County on Tuesday.
