Whitley offers little resistance to South

Lady Cards roll over Lady Colonels, 12-0

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — It was one of those games a coach hopes his team gets out of without any injuries.

Ten different South Laurel Lady Cardinals scored in a 12-0 rout of visiting Whitley County Tuesday. The game was called at the half due to the Mercy Rule.

“This is a game you have fun and hope you get out without any injuries,” coach Todd White said. “The girls said it was hot and let’s get out of here early, and they did just that.”

Kristen White and Haley House led South Laurel (5-4-1) with two goals each. Karli Parker, Mariah House, Amy Fouts, Holly Smith, Tana Collett, Sarah DeCarlo, Ariel Rudd and Logan Joyce also found the back of the net as the Lady Cards won their third game in a row to move above .500 for the first time this season.

“Whitley County is much improved,” White said. “But when you go and play in the iHigh Soccer Frenzy in Lexington like we did the game here is much slower.” The loss dropped the Lady Colonels to 3-3-1.

It didn’t take South Laurel long to get on the scoreboard when Karli Parker sent a pass to Kristen White, who beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead 46 seconds into the game. From that point on, the goals came fast and furious.

Parker scored in the 6th minute. Three minutes later, Mariah House found her scoring touch. In the 14th minute, Amy Fouts put her name in the scorebook for a 4-0 lead.

Haley House scored her first goal in the 18th minute. She would add another in the 29th minute. White’s second goal came in the 21st minute for a 6-0 lead.

Two goals in the 22nd minute, from Smith and Tana Collett, upped the lead to 8-0. DeCarlo sent a long free kick over the head of the keeper for a 9-0 lead.

After House’s second goal, Rudd and Logan Joyce rounded out the scoring for the 12-0 win.

“We were putting defensive players on offense,” White said. “This was fun for the girls.” White is pleased with his team’s progress so far.

“I think we are better than we were last year,” White said. “We are on pace to where I want us to be.”

The Lady Cards traveled to face Middlesboro Thursday then are off until September 10 when they host Pulaski County.
