LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
South Laurel continued its march through the post season with a 13-0 rout of Bell County Monday night in the girls’ 13th Region Tournament at South Laurel.
“Bell County is still searching for the right combo,” South Laurel coach Todd White said. “Our girls had fun tonight and we didn’t play down to our opponents’ level. We moved the ball around quickly.”
It was your basic David vs. Goliath match-up, as South Laurel came in having outscored its opponents 22-0 in the district tournament while the Lady Bobcats were winless on the season. South didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard with a goal in the 2nd minute when Julie Fouts sent a cross in front of the Bell County goal that Kristen White headed past the keeper. White scored her second goal one minute later of a cross from Karli Parker. White would finish her hat trick in the 11th minute off another assist from Fouts that made the score 5-0. Before that Parker scored in the 4th minute ad Haley House scored off a pass from Shelby Davis in the 7th minute.
The rout continue when Parker scored in the 16th minute as her shot hit off the keeper’s hands, banged off the crossbar and hit the keeper’s back and went into the goal Then it was Ariel Rudd’s usual defensive position to score three goals, in the 19th, 26th and 29th minutes. Meredith McCowan, Davis, Regan Rutledge and Logan Joyce rounded out the scoring to complete the 13-0 rout.
“Ariel has a good shot and it excites her when she scores,” White said.
South will now face Corbin Wednesday night for the region title. Corbin downed Middlesboro, 10-0, in the other first round game. South defeated the Lady Redhounds 10-0 in last week’s district title game.
“It’s hard to beat any team three times in a season,” White said. “Especially after we beat them 10-0 last week. We’ll see what kind of fight they have.”
The 13th Region title game is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at South Laurel High School.
