Parker named first team all-state

South junior finished second in state with 54 goals

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — South Laurel’s Karli Parker has received another honor by being named First Team All-State in girls’ soccer.

“I am very honored and blessed to be selected, that was one of my goals this year,” Parker said. “I was excited when I heard, after being named second team last year I wanted to improve and take a step higher for myself and my teammates, and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

The South Laurel junior finished the season with 54 goals and received the most votes for the All-Region Team. Her 54 goals makes her the county leader in goals for a season, besting former North Laurel player Ashley Bradford, who held the record with 41.

Parker’s 54 goals put her second in the state this year, behind Thomas Nelson’s Ashley Ritchie, who scored 63. Parker averaged 2.5 goals per game to help lead the Lady Cards to the district and region title and a place in the state tournament, where they lost in the first round to Russell Independent, 4-0.

Parker now has 129 goals for her career as she is closing in on the school and county record. Amanda Harber holds the South Laurel record with 148 goals, while Bradford holds the county record with 150.
