LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Fans got to see runners of all ages at Saturday’s North Laurel Invitational cross country meet with elementary to high school athletes competing.

Isabel Gray of Bush won the elementary girls 2K race in 8:01.26, about 18 seconds ahead of Madison Blanton of Harlan County. Although the elementary runners did not run attached to a school team, the Laurel County runners placed well. Katie Ann Brown (8:22.22) and Phoebe McCowan (8:24.69) were the third and fourth place finishers. Ellie Stanko (9:03.54) placed  seventh and Hailee Valentine (9:03.54) was eighth.

Ford Breeding (7:36.15) placed second in the elementary boys meet. Also running from Laurel County were Dylan Mounce (8:17.34) in eighth place and Will Stanko (8:35.12) ninth.

South Laurel’s  Sydney McWhorter (14:19.12) won the middle school girls ‘3K with Sidney King (16:29.66) of North Laurel eighth.

The top local finisher in the middle school boys’ event was North Laurel’s John Bowling (12:43.38) in third place, just ahead of Trey Valentine (13:00.41).

The high school girls’ 5K was dominated by Madison Central with five of the top six finishers. South Laurel’s Alyssa Hamilton (24:27.15) posted the top local time and finished 11th. Hamilton’s teammate, Laurence Beliveau (25:19.56) placed 18th. The top runner for the North Laurel girls was Gabi Collier (26:59.47) in 23rd place.

North Laurel made a strong showing in the high school boys’ 5K. North Laurel placed three runners in the top seven, led by Scout Bundy (17:54.75) in fourth place. Garrison Burchell (18:12.00) placed sixth, just ahead of Layne Gaynor (18:18.28). North Laurel also got an 11th place finish from Garrett Napier (18:48.18).

The top runner for the South Laurel boys was Justin Phelps (19:40.38) in 18th place with Jonathan Hampton (19:51.59) just behind him.

North Laurel’s Thomas Melton (21:14.12) finished fourth in the junior varsity 5K with Madison Central taking the top three spots. Austin Wagner (22:26.34) finished seventh in the junior varsity event.
