LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
North Laurel’s Football Kickoff Banquet will be held August 4, at 6 p.m. and will feature professional fisherman and motivational speaker Clay Dyer. The clip “Clay Dyer: Most Inspirational Fisherman” on YouTube tells much about Dyer’s story.
Dyer was born with no lower limbs, no arm on his left side, and only a partial arm on the right side. What most would consider limitations have not stopped Dyer from doing what he loves most. He began fishing at age 5 and competed in his first tournament at 15. He became a professional angler in 1995. He spent four years on the FLW tour and now competes in the Bassmaster Open Series. Dyer is also a volunteer football coach Hamilton High School in Alabama.
David Oliver of Pittsburg Marine helped arrange for Dyer to appear at Saturday’s banquet.
“I have been blessed to be around Clay two or three times. I have never seen anything like him before,” Oliver said. “To say he is an over comer does not do justice. He has the greatest outlook on life of anyone I have ever been around.”
The banquet will be held in the North laurel gymnasium with food provided by J.R. Smith. Tickets are $20 at the door with a meal or $10 without a meal. The meal will include chicken or barbecue with sides and desert. All proceeds from the banquet will go to the North Laurel football team.
Tickets are also available from members of the North Laurel football team and coaching staff.
