Black, Smith inducted into 12th Region Hall of Fame

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Two Laurel County residents have been inducted into the 12th Region Hall of Fame.

JR Smith and Mike Black were inducted into the contributor’s category of the HOF, which also features a players category and coaches category. The 12th Region Hall of Fame was started in 2004 and is a part of the 12th Region Boys’ Basketball Coaches Association, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Individuals are nominated and voted on by 12th Region schools.

Smith has been a supporter of 12th Region basketball for 15 years at South Laurel, Garrard County and North Laurel, and has provided such things as meals to players. Smith has also served as scorekeeper for both Garrard County and North Laurel.

Black has been named the 12th Region Official of the Year several times, and has refereed 19 district tournaments, 15 regional tournaments, nine regional championship games and four state tournament games. Black recently retired from officiating.
