North runs over Riverside

Jaguars have no trouble in 82-25 win over Rams

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — There was really no question North Laurel would make short work of young Riverside Christian. The Jaguars picked up an 82-25 win Thursday with a running clock starting late in the first half.

“It’s a good opportunity to get a lot of kids involved and a lot getting their first varsity experience. We’ll take a win anytime we can,” North Laurel coach Brad Sizemore said.

The Jaguars led 38-5 after one quarter with nine different players getting playing time. There were 11 players that saw action in the first half. North Laurel played 14 players in the first half of their opener against Harlan, but that was due to foul trouble. This time it was just to give everyone minutes.

Chris Miller came out strong for the Jaguars with nine points in the first quarter

“Chris played really well on Tuesday. He’s a guy was hurt a little bit last year. He’s healthy now and he’s a senior. He’s really strong, skilled, and can score in transition. We’re hoping me has a big year,” Sizemore said.

Peyton Broughton scored eight in the second quarter as North Laurel pushed the lead to 60-16. The lead peaked at 78-19 in the third quarter with most of the players on the floor for North Laurel getting their first action.

“We’ve got a young team so for them to have an opportunity to come out and just kind of relax and play, get some of the jitters out of the way. I thought Tuesday night we were pressing a little bit before the game. We were trying to do a little too much,” Sizemore said. “We got a good win and we’ll move on to the next one.”

The next game was Saturday against Oneida Baptist. Although some might assume OBI is another easy game, Sizemore says that might not be the case.

“They have a new coach that brought his son with him and they have two other new kids too. They had Pineville down 14 with 3 1/2 minutes to go in the game. Pineville did end up beating them,” Sizemore said.

Next week the Jaguars have road games at Madison Southern Tuesday and Clay County Friday.
