LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The Crooked Creek Crocs captured their first ever Southern Kentucky Swim Conference Champion-ships Saturday at the Russell County Natator-ium in Russell Springs.
The Crocs came into the meet with a perfect 5-0 record.
The meet began with the Crocs sweeping the first five relays and earning silver in the 15-18 year old mixed relay. The 9-10 mixed medley relay team of Elle Hays, Katie Anne Brown, Mattie Lewis and Gabe Francis set a new conference record with a time of 1:14.78, as did the 11-12 mixed relay team of Emma Ivey, Keller Brown, Caroline Francis, and Parker Herren with a time of 2:13.41. The previous record for that event was 2:33.41 set by Lakewood Marlins in 2008.
In all, the Crocodiles set an impressive 24 conference records. The team also brought home eight individual high-point winners. They were:
• 6 & under boys and girls high-point winners: Joaquin Pauig, 43 points; and Tyra Fields 40 points;
• 7-8 boys: Spencer Hays, 54 points;
• 9-10 girls: Katie Anne Brown, 73 points;
• 11-12 boys and girls: Keller Brown, 75 points; and Emma Ivey, 75 points;
• 13-14 boys: Bretty Walter, 75 points; and
• 17-18 girls: Stacy Wilk, 75 points.
Both the men’s and women’s teams came home with championships titles. The final score was Crooked Creek Crocs, 2,383.5; Cedar Rapids Dolphins, 1,887; and Lakewood Marlins, 1,744.5.
The Crocs are coached by Caroline Akers, Jarod Martin, Shelley Nunely, Kristin Wyatt and Kyle Yeager.
