LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Both the 49th and 50th District Tournaments will begin tonight, but county teams won’t see action until Tuesday.

The 49th District Tournament will be held at Jackson County High School and will tip-off at 6 p.m. with a girls’ game between Oneida Baptist Institute and Red Bird. OBI took both regular season meetings between the two schools, 61-41 and 55-39. That game will be followed by the boys’ game between those two same schools at 7:30 p.m. OBI split with Red Bird during the season, losing the first game, 68-65, but winning the second, 87-61.

On Tuesday North Laurel will meet Jackson County at 6 p.m. in the girls’ game, followed by North-Jackson County boys at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Jaguars beat the Lady Generals twice this season, 53-28 and 46-37. The Generals took both meetings from the Jaguars this season, 85-85  in triple overtime, and 71-61.

Wednesday has the OBI-Red girls winner taking on No. 1 seeded Clay County at 6 p.m. in girls’ action, followed by the boys’ game at 7:30 featuring the OBI-Red Bird winner taking on Clay County, also the No. 1 seed for the boys. The Lady Tigers didn’t play either OBI or Red Bird during the regular season. The Tigers did play OBI and won handily, 83-24.

The girls’ final will be Thursday at 7 p.m., while the boys’ final will be Friday at 7 p.m.

One note about the tournament at Jackson County. Once you have purchased your ticket and entered the gym, if you leave at any time, you must purchase another ticket to re-enter the gym. This is being done for safety precautions.

The 50th District Tournament will be held at Williamsburg and also tips-off tonight when the Corbin Lady Redhounds, the No. 1 seed, takes on host Williamsburg at 6:30 p.m., followed by the No. 1 seed Corbin Redhounds meeting Williamsburg at 8:15 in the boys’ game.

The Lady Redhounds swept Williamsburg during the regular season, 78-41 and 59-28. Corbin took both meetings from Williamsburg in boys’ action, 64-56 and 81-55.

Tuesday’s action starts with girls in action as Whitley County battles South Laurel at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Whitley-South boys’ game at 8:15 p.m.

The boys’ final will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and the girls’ final will be Friday, also at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Cards and Lady Colonels split their regular season games, with Whitley winning the first, 67-44, while South took the second, 54-48. The Cardinals also split with the Colonels, winning the first game, 62-48, but falling in the second, 44-36.
