LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The new athletics director at South Laurel has traded one set of Cardinals for another.
Ryan Nolan was named the new AD at South Laurel last week, replacing Keith Gilbert, who retired.
Nolan comes from George Rogers Clark, where he was the District AD for the past three years. He is scheduled to start work at South Laurel today.
“We had five good candidates, but we felt like his experience was critical,” Randy Leger, district athletic director, said. “We interview last Tuesday and I did reference checks on Wednesday and we made our decision Wednesday afternoon.”
Leger said Nolan’s experience with such things as Kentucky High School Athletic Association bylaws, along with his experience, made him the top candidate.
“From all the people that I have talked to, both inside and outside of the George Rogers Clark school system, all spoke very highly of his organizational skills and his ability to deal with coaches and parents,” Leger said. “He can hit the ground running with the fall sports season getting ready to start. We are excited to have him.”
