LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
BOWLING GREEN—North Laurel’s Caroline Moore finished tied for seventh at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Girls’ State Golf Tournament, held at the Bowling Green Country Club.
She finished with a two-day total of 153, 9 over par. Moore shot a 79 in the first round but came back with a 74 in the second round. As a team, North Laurel finished in ninth place. Sacred Heart won the team title.
Anna Hack of Calloway County won the state title with a 2 under 142. She was the only player under par.
Moore opened second round play Wednesday with a par on 10, but then bogeyed the par 3 11th. Four straight pars kept her at 1-over. She would finish her first nine at even par 36.
After bogeying No. 1, she pared 2 and birdied 3 to keep her even for the round and moving her into a tie for sixth place at 7 over.
Following a par on No. 4, Moore bogeyed No. 5 before paring No. 6, but that bogeyed dropped her back to ninth place. She would finish out her round with two more pars and a bogey.
Moore started first round play on No. 10, where she was even through the first two holes. But then she bogeyed three out of the next four holes and was 2 over through six. She pared the final three holes to make the turn with a 38, 2 over par.
It was on the front nine (which was her back nine) that she ran into trouble. A bogey on the first hole moved to her 3 over, but she got that stroke back on the par 5 second hole with a birdie. Then came a bogey on three and a triple bogey on four to push her to 6 over. She remained at 6 over until the eighth hole, where she had another bogey. A par on nine finished her with a 79, which saw her tied for 10th.
Katie Bowling shot an 86 in the first round as she recorded eight bogeys, a double bogey and a quadruple bogey. Her struggles continued on day two with three bogeys and two double bogeys in the first nine holes. She finished with an 84 for a two-day total of 172, 14 over par. She finished tired for 44th.
Lynsey Kraftick shot a 20 over 92 in the first round with seven bogeys, three double bogeys, one triple and one quadruple bogey. Over her first nine holes of the second round she had three bogeys, three double bogeys and one triple bogey. She finished with an 88 for a 16 over, 180. She finished in 55th place.
Caitlin Gibson’s first round, a 31 over 103, saw her fail to make par or below on any hole. She had seven bogeys, nine double bogeys and two triple bogeys. She did record a birdie on the par 3 11th hole on day two, but that was her only hole at or under par as she finished the first nine at 14 over 50. She finished with a 100 for a two-day total of 203, 59 strokes over par and tied for 74th.
Brianna Valentine had a 67 over 139 in round one with two bogeys being her lowest score on No. 9 and No. 13. Her struggles continued with a 27 over par 63 for the first nine holes on day two, but she came back to finish with a 124 for a 119 over par 263, which placed her in 82nd.
