LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Samantha Helton and Chelsey Hensley scored three goals each as North Laurel rolled to a 9-1 win over Middlesboro Tuesday.
“Chels and Sam played very aggressive up top, they were due some goals and they certainly worked hard to get them,” North Laurel coach Becki Woodworth said.
Brianna Barnard, Sidney Reed, and Jenna Rockwell scored the other three goals for the Lady Jaguars. Rockwell also recorded two assist and Gabby Chamberlain one assist as North Laurel won for the first time since an 11-1 win over Wayne County on Sept. 10.
“Sid and Jenna worked hard in the midfield and did a great job of getting the ball to people in positions to score,” Woodworth said. “Barnard scored our first goal on a hustle play and it was her first career goal. “
Twelve different players have scored goals for North Laurel this season. Rockwell leads the Lady Jaguars with eight goals despite joining the team late and playing in just four games. Helton moved into second place on the team with seven goals after her hat trick Tuesday.
There are two games remaining in the regular season for the Lady Jaguars. North Laurel was scheduled to host Somerset Thursday and Pulaski County Tuesday. They will face Corbin in the first round of the district tournament.
“It was a great win for the girls. They needed a pick me up game to get excited about the rest if the season,” Woodworth said.
