LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Several county basketball players have been invited to participated in this year’s Appalachian Boys Underclassman All Star Classic, to be held June 22 at the Nixon Athletic Center at Leslie County High School.
This event showcases the elite boys’ basketball players from Region 12 through 16.
There will be a Rookie All Star Classic for first and/or second year varsity players from 2012; a Bronze Medal All Star Classic for combined sophomores and juniors of 2012; a Silver Medal All Star Classic for combined sophomores and juniors from 2012; and a Blue Chip All Star Classic for elite underclass all stars from all grades combined for 2012.
In the Rookie All Star Classic, which will be played at 4 p.m., South Laurel’s Zac Baxter has been invited to be a member of the South All Stars, which will be coached by James Turner of Riverside Christian. The North All Stars will be coach by Daniel Day of Leslie County.
The Bronze Medal All Star Classic, which will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., has South Laurel’s Matthew Slavey and Jon Helton invited to be on the South All Stars. That team will be coached by Rodney Woods of Wayne County, while the North All Stars will be coached by Jim Youngman of Greenup County.
The Silver All Star Classic will be played at 7 p.m. and two North Laurel players, Marcus Carson and Austin Rush, have been invited to play for the South All Stars, which will be coached by Jeff Jackson of Lincoln County. The North All Stars will be coached by Powell County’s Brian Hall.
The Blue Chip All Star Classic has North Laurel’s Jake Allen invited to play for the South All Stars, and South Laurel’s coach Jeff Davis will coach that team. The North All Stars will be coached by Greg Coldiron.
