Two East Bernstadt teenagers were taken to St. Joseph London hospital Monday afternoon for treatment of hypothermia after they fell through the ice covering a pond.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County Chief Jimmy Bridges said an ambulance was dispatched to a home off of KY 490 in East Bernstadt about 4:30 p.m. When the unit arrived on the scene, Bridges said the teens were out of the pond and had been taken into their home.

“They were sitting in front of a fire,” Bridges said. “They had some scratches and scrapes from getting out of the pond.”

The teens were reportedly playing on the ice which broke, sending them into the water.
