Jimmy Dale Hayes

Retired truck driver

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Jimmy Dale Hayes, 53, London, Ky., passed away  peacefully among family and friends Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at his home.

Born March 21, 1959, in Mt. Vernon, Ky., he was the son of the late Thomas Colbert Hayes and Mary Mae Payne Hayes. He was in the military for 12 years and was a retired truck driver of 22 years. He was an owner/operator under J. Hayes Trucking for 10 years, was an avid hunter, loved fishing and loved UK Wildcats basketball. Most of all he loved and enjoyed his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was a member of Skaggs Creek United Baptist Church since Nov. 4, 1973.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Florence Marie Gibbs Hayes, London; three children, Jeremy Thomas Hayes (Stefanie Smallwood) and Brandon Dale (Amber Lynn) Hayes, both of London, and Stephanie Marie (James Travis) Caldwell, East Bernstadt; four grandchildren, Alison Lynn and Taylor Claire Hayes, Sophia Marie Caldwell and Zoey Breann Hayes.

He also leaves behind 14 brothers and sisters,  Betty Jasper, Judy (Leon) Rowe, Sharon (Ricky) Mullins, and Doug Hayes, all of Mt. Vernon, Ky., Mike (Shelia) Hayes, Fruitland, Fla., Dennis (Trish) Hayes, Georgetown, Ky., Bill Hayes, Steve (Lynn) Hayes, and Gary (Donna) Hayes, of Brodhead, Ky., Evelyn (Arnold) Brown, Livingston, Ky., Bobby Jean Hood and Jackie (Bruce) Lewis, Somerset, Ky., Dorothy (Mike) Walton, Lancaster, Ky., and Lorene (Denver) Sowder, Berea, Ky.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m.  Sunday, Sept. 2 at Skaggs Creek Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Ky., with the Rev. Dennis Gibbs officiating and Dennis White reading the eulogy.

Burial followed in Skaggs Creek Church Cemetery, Rockcastle County.

Pallbearers were Chan Hood, Shannon Hood, Donnie Sowder, George Caldwell, Dennis White, Bentley Hayes and Harold Hayes.

The family received friends after 6 p.m.  Saturday, Sept. 1 and from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral hour Sunday in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations be made to House-Rawlings Funeral Home.
