Minnie Cecil Proffitt

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Minnie Cecil Proffitt, 93, London, Ky., passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly.

Born Sept. 2, 1918 in Clay County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Joe and Emmer Garland Hampton. She was a homemaker and a member of the East Salem Baptist Church.

She was united in marriage to Boyd Proffitt who preceded her in death.

Besides her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Evianne Proffitt; and two sons-in-law, Denzil Riggs and Estil Scalf.

She is survived by two daughters, Jean Riggs, McKee, Ky., and Mae Scalf, London; three sons, Kenneth (Martha) Proffitt, Cincinnati, Ohio, Ray (Sue) Proffitt, London and George (Eileen) Proffitt, Rushville, Ind.; two sisters, Mattie Minton and Hazel Cheek, both of Manchester, Ky.; a brother, Homer Hampton, London; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren;  plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Jerry Lewis, Dwight Scalf and Doug Wilson officiating.

Burial followed in Old Salem Cemetery, Laurel County.

Pallbearers were Dwight Scalf, Jason Proffitt, Kenny Proffitt, Mike Lunsford, James Eaton and Jarrod Eaton.

Visitation was after 6 p.m. Monday at Bowling Funeral Home.
