Farmer “Bud” Shell

Building inspector for the city of London

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Farmer “Bud” Shell, 71, London, Ky., passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2012.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1941 in Harlan, Ky., the son of the late Farmer and Effie Killion.  

He was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force, affiliated with the Baptist faith, a building inspector for the city of London and was active in starting the World Chicken Festival.

He was united in marriage to Ethel “Virginia” Williams who survives. He is also survived by a son, Ricky (Becky) Shell of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Jenny Lee (Dave) Newton of Haynes City, Fla.;  brother, Melvin  (Phyllis) Shell of East Bernstadt;  two grandchildren, Christopher and Brittany Shell of Omaha, Neb.; plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Shell.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with the Rev. Denny McCowan officiating.

Burial followed in the Mill Springs National Cemetery, Nancy, Ky.

Military honors were provided by members of the Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
