Edith Nellene Henson

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Edith Nellene Henson was born July 3, 1974 and departed this life on January 2, 2014 at the Continue Care Hospital, Corbin, Ky., at the age of 39 years.

She was born at Wilmington, Ohio the daughter of Dora Ruth Asher Proffitt and the late Gilbert Holland.

Edith Nellene spent her formative years at Red Bird, Ky., and was a former resident of Jack’s Branch.  She had been a resident of Keavy, Ky. for the past 14 years and was living there at the time of her death. She was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church at Big Creek, Ky., (Clay County). She was employed by the Kentucky Department of Social Services as a social worker.   

She was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Holland; paternal grandparents, Ed and Nancy Holland.   

Mrs. Edith Nellene Henson leaves the following relatives surviving, her loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Dora Ruth Proffitt of Keavy; a daughter, Tracie Michelle Henson of Keavy; four brothers, Joe Thomas Asher of Keavy; Gilbert Edward Holland and Becky of Barbourville, Ky., Derek Holland and Jennifer of South Shore, Ky., and  Anthony Wayne Proffitt and Shaylene of Georgetown, Ky.; a sister, Danielle Holland of Big Creek, Ky.; maternal grandparents, T.J. Asher and Edith Asher of Keavy; and ahost of treasured nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, with Mason Collett and Claude Maggard officiating.

Burial followed at Warren’s Grove Cemetery, Laurel County.

Visitation was Sunday from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. funeral hour.
