LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Larry Calvin Cloyd, 79, of Blacksburg, Va., passed Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013.
He was born in Laurel County, Ky., April 22, 1934 to Charlie and Ada Cloyd. Larry graduated from Hazel Green High School. He married Lois Pauline Williams on Jan. 29, 1956.
Larry worked most of his life in the insurance business. He served as a deacon in several Baptist churches, New Salem Baptist in London, Gano Avenue Baptist in Georgetown, Ky., and Buck Run Baptist in Frankfort, Ky., and was an active Gideon for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife Lois and their four children, the Rev. C. Brent Cloyd (Jeanette) of Fairfield, Ill., Brenda Kendrick (Bryan) of Cleveland, Ga., Beverly Leek (Bruce) of Cary, N.C., and Dr. C. Bryan Cloyd (Renee) of Blacksburg, Va.; and eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Brock and Brittney Cloyd; Nathan and Noah Kendrick; Jordan and Jenna Grace Leek; and Andrew Cloyd. He is also survived by a sister Lorna Cloyd of Lexington, Ky.
He was preceded in death by a brother Thurman Cloyd and a granddaughter Austin Michelle Cloyd with whom he now enjoys the glories of heaven.
Visitation with the family was at Tucker, Yocum, and Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ky., on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Buck Run Baptist Church in Frankfort, Ky., at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9.
Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.
