LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Garrett Brassfield, 90, of West Dixie Street, London, Ky., died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard, Ky.
Born Oct. 7, 1922 in Gatliff, Ky., he was the youngest child of the late John and Juda Melvina Rose Brassfield.
Survivors include his son, Harrison E. Brassfield of Richmond; daughter Judy A. Harris of Henderson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and his caregiver, Melba Rose, of London.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Eulene Brassfield; and nine brothers and sisters.
Garrett was a retired agent for Western & Southern Life Insurance. In his youth he worked at the coal mine in Gatliff and the L&N Railroad in Corbin. He was a Mason for over 50 years and a member of McKee Lodge No. 144 F. & A.M. and Scottish Rite. He served on the London-Laurel County Joint Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustments for many years. Garrett was also a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and a life-long Republican.
A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date.
