LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Clayton’s journey came to an end on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at I.V. West Hospital in Avon, Ind. He was born July 15, 1932 to Orland and Julia (Minton) Cheek in Laurel County, Ky.

Clayton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eulene (Asher) Cheek, daughter Kizzieanne Powers (husband Alan) of Plainfield, Ind. Grandchildren, Kyria Quarles (husband Brandon) of Brownsburg, Ind., Lydia Kraemer (husband Kris) of Indianapolis, Ind., and Julia Powers of Plainfield, Ind. Great grandchildren are Chandler Quarles and Harley Rae Kraemer. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul Cheek (wife Pat) from London, Ky.,  and T.J. Cheek from Marengo, Ind. Sisters are Wilma Nunemaker (husband Buddy) from New Salisbury, Ind., and Margaret Rose (husband Shayne) from New Salisbury, Ind.

Sister Pearl Allen isdeceased.

Clayton retired from Wayne Township School in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1995. He was a member of Bush Lodge No. 703, F. & A.M. He was honorably discharged from the Army on March 19, 1956 and from the Navy on Nov, 28, 1959. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in London.

Funeral services for Clayton Cheek will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 13 in London Funeral Home Chapel with Jamie Maxey officiating.

Burial will follow at Bernard Cemetery with the local DAV in charge of military honors.

The family of Clayton Cheek will receive friends at London Funeral Home from 12 noon until the funeral service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Kris Kraemer, Brandon Quarles, Alan Powers, Jeffrey Holland, Paul Douglas Cheek and Greg Cheek.
