Rev. Lawrence Cornelius

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — The Rev. Lawrence Cornelius, 90, of East Bernstadt, Ky., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Annville, Ky.

Born Jan. 8, 1923, he was the son of the late Finley and Lurlia Parsley Cornelius.

He was a retired farmer and a minister for over 60 years and founded the Cornelius House of Prayer in 1970.

He was united in marriage to Doris Ellen Hurley who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Faye Wise, Mayola Hurley, Forrest Browning, Clyde Cornelius, Conley Cornelius and Leslie Cornelius and two infant siblings.

He is survived by a son, Boyd Cornelius and wife Linda of East Bernstadt; two brothers, Dale Cornelius and Delmer Cornelius, both of Vandalia, Ohio; two sisters, Wilma Preston of London, and Alma Miller of Centerville, Ohio; and two grandchildren, William and Ruth Ann Cornelius, both of East Bernstadt; plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral service for the Rev. Lawrence Cornelius will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 9 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Denny McCowan and Cliff Creech officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in East Bernstadt.

Pallbearers will be William Cornelius, Danny Cornelius, Darrell Hurley, Tharon Hurley, Tommy Bowyer, Delmas House and Kenneth Lewis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Hurley, Lonnie Preston, Jerry Moore, Jim McGee, Paul Bowling, Johnny Vires, Kenneth Allen House, Bimbo Smith and Willis Bowling.

The family received friends at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Tuesday.
