Ethel Mae Rice Handley

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Ethel Mae Rice Handley, 92, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.

She was born Feb. 13, 1921 in Bell County, Ky., the daughter of the late Ben and Julie Gambrel Rice. She was united in marriage to Cleo Handley who preceded her in death.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by four sisters, Arizona Lewis, Evelyn Handley, Bessie Green and Flora York Brummett.

She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Christian Faith.

She is survived by three children, Sheila Anderson and husband John R. of Richmond, Ky., Thomas Benny Handley and wife Linda of Somerset, Ky., and Gerald Handley and wife Alberta of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Georgia Brummett of Williamsburg, Ky., and Nora Brummett of Pineville, Ky.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 25 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Ron Cathers officiating.

Burial will follow in A.R. Dyche Memorial Park, London.

Pallbearers will be Benny Handley Jr., Tiger Miller, John, Jeff and Joel Anderson and Jeffrey Todd Handley.

Visitation was after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
