LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Gillis Thompson, 81, London, Ky., passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 29, 1932, in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late Bob and Ina Wagers Thompson.
He was united in marriage to Wealthy Hubbard Thompson, who survives of London. He is also survived by five children, Larry Thompson and wife, Charlene, Brenda Grimes and husband, Gary, all of London, Linda Smith and husband, Joe, of Pittsburg, Rick Thompson and wife, Jackie, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Tim Thompson of London; two sisters, Judy Baker of London and Eunice Halcomb of Whitesburg; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn his passing.
He was a former mechanic and restaurant operator and was a member of White Hall Baptist Church.
Funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Helton officiating.
Burial followed in the New Salem Cemetery, Pittsburg.
Pallbearers were Bobby, Doug, Jason and Eddie Thompson, Bobby Joe Smith and Jeff Hundley.
Visitation was from 12 noon until the funeral hour on Monday.
