LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Nellie Minton, 97, of Nicholasville, Ky., formerly of Richmond, Ky., passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Saint Joseph Hospital Hospice Center in Lexington.
Born July 18, 1916, in Clay County, Ky., to Oliver and Effie Pennington Estridge, she moved to Richmond in 1951. Nellie served six months in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1943 during World War II. She was a member of Centerville Christian Church and enjoyed crocheting, reading, and puzzles.
Survivors include her daughter, Bobbie J. (Jim) Richards of Richmond; grandchildren, Marcia Dawn Smith, Charles Franklin Paul, and Chad Michael Baumer; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, June Helton of Nicholasville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Minton who died in 2005; daughter, Judith Gayle Paul; parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation for Nellie Minton was from 12 noon until the funeral hour of 2 p.m. on Monday, April 28 at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond with Pastor Terry Cochran officiating.
Entombment was in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
