Mackenzie Sams

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Mackenzie Charlene Joyce Sams, 13, of London, Ky., passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Kentucky Children’s Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

She was a former student at North and South Laurel Middle Schools and a member of Level Green Baptist Church.

She was born on Jan. 22, 2000, in Corbin, Ky.  She was the daughter of Michelle Lee Huff Lunsford and fiancé, Thomas Dwayne Haynes, of London, and Luther Lynn Sams Jr., and wife, Jennifer Marie, of Mt. Vernon.  She is also survived by seven siblings,  Ethan Allen Sams, Corbin, Dustin Ray Lunsford and Thomas Dwayne Haynes Jr., both of London, Justin and Jessica Mason, Darren Quinley, and Cayden King, all of Mt. Vernon; her grandparents,  Pauline Heading and Michael Heading and wife, Judy, of Cleveland, Ohio, Roger Haynes of London,  and James Harp of Corbin; great-grandmothers,  Christine Landreth of Cleveland, Ohio,  and Margie Haynes of Hamilton, Ohio; her aunts and uncles and their families,  Jamie Snyder, Jennifer Snyder, Roger Haynes Jr., Pam Johnson, Robin Phillips, Sonja Parsons, Harold Huff II, Augustina Marie Ramos, Ashley Heading, Darrell Mason and Jason Mason, plus a host of cousins, friends and other relatives to mourn her passing.  

She was preceded in death by her grandparents,  Phyllis Huff, Earl Jones, Mary Haynes and Donna Minton; and great-grandparents,  Ulysses Grant Haynes and Fred Millsaps.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 23, in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Bernard Ellison officiating.

Burial followed in the Locust Grove Cemetery at Keavy.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Visitation was after 6 p.m. Saturday, June 22 at the funeral home.
