Helen L. Howard

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Helen L. Howard, 91, London, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly.

She was born Oct. 2, 1921 in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of the late Konstanty and Julia Nowakowski Ratkiewicz.

She was a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp stationed in England serving during World War II. She was employed as an occupational nurse at the Studebaker Automotive Factory in South Bend, Ind., for 30 years, and retired from the Laurel County Health Department with 10 years of service. She was of the Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edd Howard; two sons, James A, Howard and Thomas E, Howard; a grandson, Thomas Edd Howard; and her special friend of 30 years, Vada Owens.

There will be no service. Interment will be in the family plot at Saint Joseph Cemetery in South Bend, Ind.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Saint Williams Catholic Church in London.
