Rhoda Haun Tallant

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Rhoda Haun Tallant, 92,  passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, in Mt. Juliet, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold D. Tallant; by parents, Edward Haun and Ida Florence Hill Haun; by children, John David Tallant and Sylvia Ann Tallant; by sisters, Naomi Bridges and Bonnie Giles.

Survivors include, her children, Marilynn Friel (Billie) and Dr. Harold D. Tallant, Jr. (Ann); and her grandchildren, Christa Friel, Laura Friel, Daniel Friel, and Amanda Tallant.

Mrs. Tallant was born in Gatliff, Ky. Her father, Edward Haun, was a school teacher and a country preacher. She lived in Kentucky and Tennessee before graduating from Harriman Hight School in Harriman, Tenn. She attended Carson Newman College where she met her future husband of 48 years, Harold Tallant. With her husband, she attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville.

Mrs. Tallant was a wonderful pastor’s wife. She taught the Bible throughout her marriage for various children and youth age groups. She also was an accomplished writer, having authored a book on “The Highview Baptist Story” and articles for five different Baptist magazines. She was a dedicated substitute teacher for the Louisville School system.

A celebration of Rhoda’s life was  held December 6 at Highview Baptist Church Chapel in Louisville with the Rev. Billie Friel officiating.

Visitation was from 12 noon followed by the funeral at 2 p.m.

 Burial was at A.R. Dyche Cemetery in London, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.

Arrangements under the direction of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd.
